Matthew Casey, Chicago Fire

Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) is the one character in the One Chicago fandom who has actual experience as an elected official, having served as a Chicago city Alderman. Casey’s foray into politics started in the second half of Chicago Fire season 4 and lasted until the end of season 5, when he resigned to put his focus back on the firehouse.

The thing is, when Casey was an Alderman, he was actually pretty good at it. He proved that he wasn’t going to be bought off or bullied into making decisions he didn’t want to; even when his opponent threatened to derail Casey and Dawson’s adoption of Louie as a way of pressuring him, Casey found his own way not to sell out. If he were President, we know that he would never, ever be pushed into doing something he didn’t think was best for America.

Casey also showed his willingness to fight for the little guy. Whether it was helping out a guy who complained about nearby construction, or springing into action when a routine visit turned into a rescue mission, he did everything he could for anyone regardless of who they were. We think he’d be a very fair and compassionate Chief Executive. His only flaw would be that he would loathe all of the paperwork, as demonstrated in Chicago Fire season 6, and he’d probably get worn down by all the extraneous obligations of the Presidency. Like we know he doesn’t do well at parties.
