Today is Presidents’ Day, the holiday in which we celebrate our Presidents of the United States. Which got us wondering: Which One Chicago characters would make the best President?

It’s not as farfetched a question as you might think. Our characters are all heroes in their own way, with all of them working every week to make the city of Chicago a better place. They’re people we root for, and often look up to. Some of them have been in politics, and even been recognized in the community, so why not in the nation?

We’ve gone through all of the main characters from Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD, and come up with our Top 5 candidates who we think would be qualified to lead our entire country. On the following pages, you’ll be able to learn more about why we would vote for each of them, and what would make them President material. Then we want you to cast your vote for the best One Chicago presidential candidate in the comments at the end of the slideshow.

CHICAGO FIRE — Season: 6 — Pictured: Eamonn Walker as Wallace Boden — (Photo by: John Tsiavis/NBC)

Wallace Boden, Chicago Fire

First of all, doesn’t Chicago Fire‘s Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) just seem like a President? He’s the boss, and he’s A Boss. Boden carries himself with an authority and integrity that we would call Presidential.

Obviously, he has plenty of experience as an authority figure, having led Firehouse 51 for five and a half seasons now. But it’s not just that he’s done it; it’s how well he’s done it. Every time that he isn’t in charge, the firehouse seems to utterly collapse (like in Chicago Fire season 3 when Chief Pridgen “filled in” for him).

We could see Chicago Med getting a new administrator, and we may have to see Chicago PD‘s Intelligence Unit with a new boss depending on how season 5 ends, but you can’t see Firehouse 51 being led by anyone but Wallace Boden.

Not to mention that over Boden’s tenure, he’s dealt with everything that could be thrown at him and then some. He’s had to fend off the wrath of an irrationally angry Chief Anderson last year, had to discipline various firefighters and paramedics on his team, and battled to keep the house from closing. He has handled so much, so we’d trust him to navigate any national crisis.

Boden gets bonus points because Eamonn Walker has already played a political figure before. He guest starred as Walter Lutulu, a political prisoner coerced to become a public leader, in Cinemax’s Strike Back opposite future Chicago Justice star Philip Winchester.

Matthew Casey, Chicago Fire

Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) is the one character in the One Chicago fandom who has actual experience as an elected official, having served as a Chicago city Alderman. Casey’s foray into politics started in the second half of Chicago Fire season 4 and lasted until the end of season 5, when he resigned to put his focus back on the firehouse.

The thing is, when Casey was an Alderman, he was actually pretty good at it. He proved that he wasn’t going to be bought off or bullied into making decisions he didn’t want to; even when his opponent threatened to derail Casey and Dawson’s adoption of Louie as a way of pressuring him, Casey found his own way not to sell out. If he were President, we know that he would never, ever be pushed into doing something he didn’t think was best for America.

Casey also showed his willingness to fight for the little guy. Whether it was helping out a guy who complained about nearby construction, or springing into action when a routine visit turned into a rescue mission, he did everything he could for anyone regardless of who they were. We think he’d be a very fair and compassionate Chief Executive. His only flaw would be that he would loathe all of the paperwork, as demonstrated in Chicago Fire season 6, and he’d probably get worn down by all the extraneous obligations of the Presidency. Like we know he doesn’t do well at parties.

CHICAGO P.D. — Season: 5 — Pictured: Amy Morton as Sgt. Trudy Platt — (Photo by: James Dimmock/NBC)

Trudy Platt, Chicago PD

If Chicago PD‘s Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) was elected President, no other country would ever mess with us, ever again. Think about it, do you want to be on her bad side? Does anyone in One Chicago? No, and heck no.

Platt is someone else who comes to the One Chicago Presidential ballot with a lot of leadership experience. She’s been the desk sergeant at the District for a long time, and been a police officer for even longer than that. Platt knows the District, its officers and what goes on within its walls better than anyone.

We know she would have that same sharp eye and iron fist if she were made President of the United States. Nothing would ever get by her, and she certainly wouldn’t suffer any fools or any political double-speak. Everyone in her administration would be held to her very high standards and if they slipped up, she’d tell them so.

But at the same time, Platt has demonstrated a huge heart when it comes to citizens in need, whether it’s kids who get pulled into Intelligence’s cases, the guy who lost his dog, or even the one victim no one else could quite remember. We know she’d have that same caring as President, and look out for as many people as she could.

Perhaps the best part of Trudy Platt’s presidency would mean that would make her husband Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) the First Man. Who wouldn’t want to see a Trudy and Mouch in the White House show? We smell spinoff.

CHICAGO P.D. — Season: 5 — Pictured: Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson — (Photo by: James Dimmock/NBC)

Antonio Dawson, Chicago PD

If the One Chicago vote for President was decided purely on popularity, Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) would win hands down. He was the only character unanimously on every ballot in last year’s One Chicago All-Star Team voting, and so far we haven’t found a single One Chicago fan who doesn’t like Antonio.

But it’s not just his popularity that has us considering him as a Presidential candidate. There’s nobody in the whole One Chicago fandom that has more experience than Antonio, since he’s the only character who’s been a regular on two One Chicago shows (Chicago PD and Chicago Justice) and recurring on a third (Chicago Fire). He’s pretty much been everywhere. And that includes his work experience, because we know he’s worked in Intelligence, in Narcotics, and for the State’s Attorney. This guy has a lot of skills from a lot of places.

That also means he has a lot of connections that he could use to get things done, whether it’s enlisting the help of a fellow politician like Mark Jefferies (Carl Weathers) or asking any of his coworkers for assistance. He’s also able to see the big picture now, using his experience from his State’s Investigator work to know more about what’s legal and what’s not. He’s kind of like the Swiss Army Knife of One Chicago.

The question we have with an Antonio Dawson presidency is who would be his Vice President? Could you imagine if he ran on the same ticket with his sister Gabriela (Monica Raymund)? That would be a very interesting combination in the White House. We’d just have to hope their dad didn’t show up to cause any more trouble.

CHICAGO MED — Season 3 — Pictured: Brian Tee as Dr. Ethan Choi — (Photo by Nino Munoz/NBC)

Ethan Choi, Chicago Med

Our candidate for President of the United States from the Chicago Med party is Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). What makes Choi our favorite candidate out of all the doctors and nurses at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center? It’s because throughout Chicago Med season 2 and into Chicago Med season 3, Choi has shown himself to be a leader at the hospital—so we certainly think he’d have the mettle to lead the United States.

While his tenure as Chief Resident got off to a chaotic start, Choi proved to be the stabilizing force all of last season. As everyone else at the hospital broke down or lost their way, Choi held himself together and helped to hold the team in one piece as well. He was the cool head in almost every situation, only letting himself fall apart when the crisis of the week was over. That’s the kind of level-headed thinking we’d want from a President of the United States.

Choi has also demonstrated that he’s a good supervisor. His girlfriend April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) might not like it, but he doesn’t let her brother Noah (Roland Buck III) get away with anything. He wants the best out of everyone he works with, which is an important quality if you’re going to be in charge of the whole country. Hopefully no one tries to discredit him by pointing out that he looks just like a criminal we’ve seen before.
