4) Will Firehouse 51 ever go back to their day jobs?

Don’t get us wrong, we’ve said before that we think that Boden and Company are so good at solving mysteries and fighting crime that they should open their own detective agency but let’s get real here, they still have day jobs. Or at least we think they do. In this season we’ve seen them tackle a number of important issues all of which are decidedly “outside the scope” for firefighters and paramedics.

They’ve assisted in undercover Intelligence Unit investigations, Otis conducted his own little investigation to find the electrocution pool kid’s parents (which almost backfired—but his guilt led to further investigation and saved the day!) and this past episode, “When They See Us Coming,” even upped their law enforcement cred by saving the FBI’s ridiculously conspicuous inconspicuous cop killer stakeout.

We’ve had at least three episodes involving our firehouse heroes facing down guns and bullets since the last hiatus alone. That’s three more than nearly any firefighter ever will face.

As a result of the extracurricular commitments and problem solving we seem to be getting fewer and fewer of what the show is ostensibly about – fire, rescue and paramedic action. The great, realistic firefighting sequences and rescue action is a big part of what has always made Chicago Fire so fun and exciting. Our heroes already have second jobs at Molly’s. Will we ever get back to our favorite firefighters and paramedics being just that, firefighters and paramedics? We hope so!
