3) They keep the hospital going

If Chicago Med didn’t have nurses, we expect the hospital would fall on its ear. As the hospital’s charge nurse, Maggie is responsible for some of the smallest but most fundamental decisions, like telling doctors which patients to take and deciding where those patients need to go. She controls that daily chaos; without her, it’s just chaos.

Just look back at the season 1 episode “Guilty” to see what the hospital looks like without Maggie. After she is arrested, April does her best to take over her responsibilities as charge nurse, but she can’t quite keep up. It’s a very difficult job and yet incredibly crucial. If doctors and patients didn’t know exactly where they were going, those couple seconds of confusion could cost someone their life.

April likewise has proven herself able to hold things together when things get crazy. She’s been there to assist on any number of cases, providing the extra pair of hands or the second point of view that can make the difference. Though she was relatively inexperienced at the start of the series, we’ve seen her grow into a confident and capable nurse who isn’t to be trifled with. These two ladies keep all the pieces sorted, which helps our doctors keep patients in one piece.
