Boden and Donna, Chicago Fire

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: GOOD

Status update: Much like Mouch and Platt, you never hear much about Chief Wallace Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) relationship with his wife Donna (Melissa Ponzio). As a recurring character, Donna only pops up periodically anyway, so their marriage only tends to make it on screen if we have a reason to stick our heads into Boden’s home life.

Donna turned up for two major plot points in Chicago Fire season 6. At the start of the season, there was a fire at her school in the episode “Ignite On Contact” that infuriated Boden, because Donna could’ve been turned extra crispy. She was able to somewhat help with the resulting fire investigation, and if for some reason you doubted the love Boden has for his wife, that should’ve been erased by how he was ready to open a can on whoever was responsible.

We also briefly saw Donna as Boden contemplated taking Carl Grissom’s (Gary Cole) offer to fill his position after Grissom’s retirement. As always, Donna supported her husband while he weighed a very difficult choice. One wonders what her reaction was to the events at the end of the season, when Boden found out that Grissom had changed his mind about retiring—and then found out he had lost to Grissom in the race for fire commissioner.

Boden must be some combination of sad and infuriated again right now, but at least he’ll have Donna and their adorable son to lean on.
