RELATIONSHIP STATUS: GOOD (Otis) and WTF (Cruz)

Status update: Both Otis (Yuri Sardarov) and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) got romantic subplots during the course of Chicago Fire season 6. However, these two friends couldn’t have gone in two more different directions.

Otis walked into a bar and fell immediately for its owner’s daughter Lily (Ariane Rinehart). The two did eventually get together, with Lily staying by Otis’s side as he recovered from being shot during the two-hour movie event. Otis kind of pushed her away for a bit, but he was in a tough place and we haven’t heard that they split, so we’re hopeful that these two crazy kids are still together and still encouraging each other.

Then there’s Cruz. Poor, misguided, romantically confused Cruz. First, the show had him decide to develop a renewed crush on ex-girlfriend Sylvie Brett, which was just painful to watch given that we had the whole Brettonio drama going on. We thought it couldn’t get much worse than that, but boy, were we wrong.

Chicago Fire then had Cruz’s ex-girlfriend come back into the picture—and she was married when she hit on him! Even though Cruz knew full well it was a bad idea, he had a one-night stand with Delia anyway. He recovered his senses long enough to break it off with her the next time he saw her, but the damage was done; her husband slugged him.

We hope that knocked some smarts back into him, because that storyline just felt like kicking Cruz when he was already down in the love department.
