4. Lock It Down

Another Chicago Med episode that dared to take the show someplace it’d never been before was “Lock It Down.” While it didn’t have a huge impact on the season as a whole, it was a fun detour as the show turned into more of an adventure than a medical drama. And sometimes you just need those fun episodes that entertain you.

The main storyline involved a woman who had abducted a baby from the hospital’s NICU, leading Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) to draft the psychiatry team of Charles and Reese to try and figure out where she’d gone and what she was thinking. It made them One Chicago’s version of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, and that proved to be a viable idea that could easily make up a future spinoff someday.

What was the most fun, though, was Colin Donnell channeling his inner Kiefer Sutherland when Dr. Connor Rhodes had to break into his own ED. With a patient desperately in need of his skill, Connor grabbed a flashlight and went into the hospital’s catacombs before literally breaking down a door.

It was absolutely fantastic to see Donnell in that element, not to mention watching the pair of Rhodes and Choi working together again—a team-up we don’t see often enough. Between this episode and last season’s “Graveyard Shift” they’ve given us some of our most memorable moments.

“Lock It Down” may not have been the most profound episode, but it most definitely thought outside the box, and that was what made it so memorable. It’s one of those episodes you can watch again and again.
