The 5 best Chicago Med season 3 episodes
2. Born This Way
One of the criticisms of Chicago Med season 3 was that the show settled into particular pairings that it always seemed to write for. With “Born This Way” it mixed those teams up completely, and the results were very impressive.
Choi and Natalie left the hospital to treat a young pregnant woman who was also homeless, and didn’t want to come in because she was afraid of being reported. Chicago Med’s ventures outside of the ED are usually pretty successful, and this episode was no exception. It was compelling to see Natalie and Choi doing their best to treat a patient in a completely unsuitable environment, while also hearing the emotional reasons why she didn’t want to do what she really needed.
And what happened with the baby afterward was one of the most tear-jerking moments of the season, so watch it again below:
Back at the hospital, we saw another interesting pairing with Will and April. Not only that, but we saw Will making a very tough decision when it became clear that their patient wanted to die since he was a child molester. This is the kind of moral dilemma that Chicago Med does well, and could always use more of; the show is at its best when it pushes the audience to ask questions and ask what we would do. What Will did was a true shocker.
Plus, “Born This Way” was the episode where we honestly began to understand why the show was so keen on Dr. Ava Bekker, because she and Connor weren’t just fighting in this episode just to fight—this was one of two episodes where we saw both of their points of view clearly laid out and both were particularly compelling. This episode wasn’t easy in any respect and that’s why we loved it.
