5. April and Tate, Chicago Med

In Chicago Med season 1, nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) found love in a storyline that could have been right out of a Hallmark movie. The season’s 13th episode “Us” introduced Tate Jenkins (Deron J. Powell), a former football player and single father who brought his son into the hospital. While Eric was fine after swallowing those magnets, Tate also found a connection with April that turned into a full-blown romance.

By the second season, things were going full speed ahead for the couple. April finally accepted Tate’s marriage proposal and had moved in with him and Eric. She also discovered that she was pregnant with Tate’s child. But then here came the One Chicago writers to rain on their parade, because in one of Chicago Med season 2’s toughest moments, April lost the baby.

That alone was one of the saddest things we’ve seen in One Chicago history. But it also widened the gap between April and Tate, who had been complaining more about how much time April had spent at the hospital. She called off their engagement in “Monday Mourning” and six episodes later, shared a kiss with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), who’s now her current boyfriend.

It was clear there were issues in April and Tate’s relationship and they weren’t as perfect as we thought they were, but c’mon writers, did you really have to do that to the baby?
