5. Snitch

“Snitch” was Chicago PD‘s way of tackling a classic problem we’ve seen on many cop shows, and even on this show before—the fact that many people don’t trust the police and as such, will not cooperate with their investigation. However, it put a twist on the story by involving Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) when it was his younger brother Jordan (recurring guest star Kylen Davis) who had to decide whether or not to talk.

Getting another story involving the Atwater family was welcome, because they have such a close dynamic and a different story from the traditional nuclear family. That also allowed for more time for LaRoyce Hawkins, who played the episode so well as a man trying to do well by both his loved ones and the community, but realizing that he couldn’t necessarily protect both.

The scene where Atwater is tempted to pull the trigger, while Voight is standing by his side, is so well-done as you can see the wheels turn in Atwater’s head; you can watch it again below. Add in Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) having almost as rough an episode as his partner when he has a blow-up, and Chicago PD making us very happy by bringing back Anna Valdez (Monica Barbaro) from Chicago Justice, and this was an episode that delivered all kinds of positives.
