Former Chicago Fire star Steven R. McQueen celebrates his birthday today, so we’re celebrating his character Jimmy Borrelli and telling you where he is now.

Today we’re saying happy birthday to Chicago Fire alum Steven R. McQueen, who played the hotheaded firefighter Jimmy Borrelli.

Borrelli didn’t spend a lot of time on the show (he was only in 25 episodes and an additional three installments of Chicago PD), but he was a series regular and he had his fair share of drama while at Firehouse 51.

His relationship with Jessica “Chili” Chilton had its turmoil with her personal issues, while the loss of his brother drove Borrelli to get into a dustup with Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker).

And as if that wasn’t enough, when the show decided to write him out, it did so by having Borrelli permanently injured in a fire—not only ending his firefighting career, but presumably changing his life forever. Remember this?

Jimmy Borrelli was a tough guy even in the face of all that tragedy, and Steven R. McQueen played that courage (and a fair amount of bravado) well. He was hot-tempered, but he also put on a brave face and got down to work, no matter what the work required. Even though he didn’t stick around very long, he certainly left an impression.

While the firehouse has moved on without him, we have to respect how hard he worked and how passionate he was about being a firefighter. And hey, if Jose Vargas could return after being let go, what about Jimmy resurfacing someday? We said it last year and we’ll say it now, it’d be great to see him again and know how he’s doing.

What has Steven been up to since his exit from Chicago Fire last season? He hasn’t been as busy as Borrelli was at the firehouse, but he did take on a project that went in the completely opposite direction.

In March, you may have seen him as the male lead in the Hallmark Channel original film Home By Spring. It’s a romance and there was no fire involved, unless you count the metaphorical sparks between his character and his love interest.

Check out the below video to hear Steven talk about that movie and his own love of the outdoors. It’s a real change of pace, but that also shows off a whole other side of him you didn’t really get to see in One Chicago:

Join us in wishing Steven R. McQueen a happy birthday in the comments! Maybe he’ll return to Chicago Fire in some capacity, but until then we’ll be keeping up with his future projects and we’ll update you on anything he does next.
