3. Call Out Gone Wrong

Way back in Season 2, Burgess and fellow partner Roman experienced the one thing police officers fear the most; a hostage situation. Not just any hostage situation, their hostage situation.

While out on patrol, Burgess notices a man who looks to be carrying a gun into a building. Going off her instincts, the two approach the door and knock, waiting for a response. When the door opens, they are met with a dying man and when Roman goes to call the injured man in, he is met with a gun to the temple.

Both officers are forced to give up their own guns after a threat on Burgess’ life is made by one of the men. Wanting to save his partner’s life, Roman pulls the man into the room by his sleeve so Burgess can call for help, only she tries to find a new way into the building instead.

Burgess sneaks around the building and grabs a piece of pipe to use as a weapon against their attacks but drops it in reaction to seeing Roman hurt and the assailant unconscious on the ground. Thinking only of her partner, Burgess tries to stop the bleeding to save Roman’s life, only she fails to realize the other assailant has come around and fights Burgess until they have the upper hand again. All is not lost for our favorite patrol officers when a random shot takes the man out, the shot having come from another man who is injured from a gunshot wound and now poses a new threat to them.

With two injured people, Burgess tries to help the man out, but she is secretly distracting him from Roman who is starting to come around and now threatens the man. The assailant sees Roman and attacks him before pointing a gun at Burgess, getting a rather sarcastic reply. When the assailant shows weakness, Burgess announces she and Roman are leaving, but that doesn’t happen when two more gunmen arrive on the scene.

Despite helping save the first man’s life, Burgess and Roman are still a threat to the new gunman and the pair flee in a desperate attempt to escape. Roman, bleeding heavily from a head wound, tells Burgess to leave him so only one of them would need to die. It looks as though the two have formed a plan as minutes later Roman is leaning against a post, seemingly on his own.

When the attacker approaches Roman, Burgess jumps from behind and tackles him down the stairs. As the attacker manages to reclaim the gun, Burgess once again jumps up from behind and stabs the attacker in the neck with a piece of glass.

Were it not for Burgess’ quick thinking, neither her nor Roman would have made it out alive and the way she jumped into action with the glass shard proves to us just how kickass she really is. Her quick thinking in the face of adversity and death is definitely one of her top moments.
