Chicago Med and Chicago Fire’s Jeff Hephner is headed to Mars. Watch the Mars season 2 trailer featuring Hephner in NatGeo’s original series.

If you’ve been missing Jeff Hephner since he was written out of Chicago Med, then don’t miss the new trailer for his next TV project Mars.

Hephner is starring in the second season of NatGeo’s Mars, which combines a scripted story with actual science to tell the story of humankind’s adventures on the Red Planet.

The network has just released a trailer for Mars season 2 and the good news for One Chicago fans is that it features Jeff Hephner right off the bat.

You’ll also see Esai Morales, who guest starred recently on Chicago PD, and hear from some of the real-life experts about what to expect from the second season when it premieres in November. It is definitely not anything you’ve seen before:

This is the first time Jeff Hephner’s done science fiction on TV (he had a role in the motion picture Interstellar). And there’s another reason One Chicago viewers should watch it: it’s not your usual sci-fi show.

What makes this series unique is that only part of it is scripted—like the trailer, the series combines a fictional story with factual science, to give audiences expert insight into what life on the Red Planet might really be like, from the challenges to the new opportunities. It’s hybrid programming that isn’t being tried anywhere else on TV right now.

It’s also the second TV gig that Hephner has lined up this fall. This summer, he revealed that he has a part in the cartel drama Queen of the South. He’ll guest star in later in the currently airing third season, which can be seen Thursdays at 9 p.m. on USA.

So while we may not see him back on Chicago Med or Chicago Fire in the near future, we’ll be seeing plenty of him on television before the end of the year. And that’s always good news, as it seems like the rest of the TV world is catching on to just how talented he is.
