Former Chicago Fire star Steven R. McQueen will take his The Vampire Diaries character to the show’s new spinoff Legacies this fall.

What is Steven R. McQueen doing after Chicago Fire? He’ll be moving on to The CW‘s Legacies, according to a report from TVLine.

Legacies is the second spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, and McQueen will be taking his Vampire Diaries hero Jeremy Gilbert to the new show’s third episode.

No specific details were given about his guest appearance, but Jeremy was seen in the Vampire Diaries series finale working at the school that serves as the principal location for Legacies, so it’s fair to assume McQueen’s return will have something to do with that.

He played Jeremy Gilbert for six seasons until 2015, when he was cast as Jimmy Borrelli for the fourth season of Chicago Fire. Borrelli was written out early in season 5 after being severely hurt responding to a call.

Here’s the Legacies teaser that recently dropped at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 to give you an idea of what to expect from McQueen’s next project:

The CW has confirmed that Legacies will premiere on Oct. 25, meaning that McQueen’s episode should be seen Nov. 8 if the show’s first three episodes roll out uninterrupted.

It’s only the second TV project fans have seen him in since he was cut from Chicago Fire; he also starred in the Hallmark Channel romance movie Home By Spring earlier this year.

While it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Steven R. McQueen back in One Chicago given that Jimmy was written out in a way that not only made it impossible for him to return to duty but also changed his life severely, it’s at least good news that the actor is still on our small screens somewhere.

If nothing else, we can hope for him to move on to a starring project of his own, like Charlie Barnett did as a series regular on Valor, which coincidentally was also on The CW. Maybe one Legacies episode will lead to more appearances by Jeremy Gilbert? Or open the door for another opportunity?
