This season’s One Chicago character departures, ranked
5. Erin Lindsay on Chicago PD
We’re including Erin Lindsay on this list because, even though Sophia Bush announced her exit from Chicago PD after last season, her character’s exit wasn’t actually spoken of until the fifth season premiere “Reform.” And it was, well, a little underwhelming.
The opening scenes of the premiere involved Lindsay’s ex-boyfriend and former partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) standing in an empty apartment, while her former boss and father figure Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) spoke about her leaving. It also came out that neither of them had heard from her since she went to New York.
Lindsay’s departure makes our list not because of the sadness that came from what we didn’t get to see. Bush didn’t return to film any goodbye scenes, so fans were left to think about how sad it was when Lindsay turned down Halstead’s marriage proposal (if he even had the chance to ask, as she was last seen with him calling her). Or Voight’s reaction to her deciding to move on.
Chicago PD then made it unintentionally more depressing by repeatedly referencing Lindsay in its storyline about the Jason Bingham murder. Since it was both Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) and Erin Lindsay who were involved in covering that up, the discovery of the body meant the show had to talk about her again—and remind us how she wasn’t in One Chicago anymore. Ouch.
