1. Connie on Chicago Fire

Without a doubt, the saddest character exit of the One Chicago season is that of Connie, Chief Boden’s loyal assistant on Chicago Fire. And that’s because it comes from a real-life tragedy: the death of actress DuShon Monique Brown, who passed away unexpectedly a few months ago.

Connie was one of the great Chicago Fire characters, stealing whole scenes with just a look or a line, and helping to hold all of Firehouse 51 together. Her meeting the fired Hope Jacquinot (Eloise Mumford) with Hope’s desk in a box was one of the best moments in the sixth season. It was a short scene, but that’s all the character needed to be memorable.

Remember when she played the ring girl during the Battle of the Badges? Watch that again in the video below for just one of many, many great Connie moments:

But the loss of DuShon Monique Brown is something One Chicago is going to feel forever. She was an amazing woman both on and off screen, so full of life and with so much love for everyone who ever met her. She represented everything that the One Chicago franchise is and ought to be. There isn’t a day that’s going to go by in the seventh season, and beyond that, where her presence won’t be felt.

It seems like Chicago Fire is planning on replacing her, as the show has hired an actress to play an office worker in season 7. We won’t know for sure if that character is filling in for Connie until we see the new season. But no one can ever truly come close to Connie, and no one can ever truly be anything like DuShon.

That’s why Connie tops our list, because while losing her character was and will be hard, the saddest thing about this season was losing a talented actress and beloved friend.
