3. Voight spares a witness

Chicago PD season 5 made things incredibly difficult for Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), but to be honest that pretty much seemed like business as usual given how many times Voight has been in trouble for something over the years.

It wasn’t until Voight’s problems spread and became the problems of Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) that fans saw a different side of Voight—and one that we don’t always get enough of.

Some digging had identified the witness who claimed to have seen Olinsky and Erin Lindsay with the body of Jason Bingham, and Voight was easily able to track him down. He went to find the guy with the intention of ruining his testimony.

However, when our fearless leader found him, he saw the witness speaking at a support group meeting, speaking about how he had genuinely turned his life around. And so Voight, against all his natural instincts, decided to walk away even though it was the best chance he had at the time of saving Olinsky.

It was a great scene for Chicago PD, because the show leans so much on Voight doing whatever he has to or believes he has to. It was actually a bit out of character for him to pull back, but his doing so was kind of profound because we knew what it took for him to do that.

Of course, then the show had Olinsky plant drugs on the man anyway and undo all of that goodwill, but it was nice while it lasted.
