What will happen

It goes without saying that Connor isn’t going to accept that job at the Mayo Clinic. That would mean he’d leave Chicago, which would mean that Colin Donnell would be written out of the show, and since Donnell was seen over the summer at NBC’s upfront presentation it’s an established fact that he is returning for Chicago Med season 4.

The show will have to provide a reason why he turned down such a prominent position. What will the explanation be? We’d like to think it’s because Chicago is his hometown, and he’s loyal to the hospital and everyone in it. Part of Connor’s story in the first season was coming home, getting to return to a place that means something to him, so that makes the most sense.

However, don’t rule out that it has something to do with Ava Bekker. Chicago Med pushed that ship heavily throughout the third season, even though the two never did anything after the one night stand they had at midseason.

Ava is also returning for season 4, so we fully expect that the series will waste no time reigniting the fire on that relationship and have them become a couple before this season’s halfway over. Look for Connor to once again have to balance his professional life with his romantic one, but now it’ll be much harder while Ava continues to compete with him at work.
