Before Chicago PD season 6 begins on Sept. 26, we’re previewing the new season specifically for each main character. Where did they leave off last season, what ought to happen with them in the new season, and what is most likely going to happen next?

Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is the most stable person in the Intelligence Unit, which really is saying something when you consider how much the team has to go through every week. But all of the drama seems to escape Atwater—he doesn’t have any major skeletons in his past and for the most part, he keeps his head down when it comes to his present and future.

Atwater is so consistent that it makes him almost harder to define. Audiences know that Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is the tough as nails leader, or that Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is the loyal detective, but Kevin Atwater doesn’t have that one different quality that separates him from his colleagues. So there’s not a readily apparent direction for him to go, or any burning questions for him to answer. What does that mean for him in season 6?
