Chicago Fire season 7 character preview: Otis
What should happen
After what the show just put him through, it feels like we could see a different or at least more versatile Otis in Chicago Fire season 7. How could he not change and grow based on the things he’s seen and done recently?
Otis returned to firefighter duty before the end of the sixth season, so when Chicago Fire returns, he should have been working long enough that he’s well recovered from his injuries. But while he ought to be physically okay, that doesn’t mean the show can’t mine the past season for more plot material.
His stint working a desk at the firehouse proved that Otis has a knack for administrative work, and that he’s incredibly observant. Why not find ways to make use of that in the coming season?
While Grissom has won the fire commissioner’s post, somebody still has to bring the evidence against him to the city’s attention. Otis is the perfect person to do that, because he’s the one that found it in the first place, so he’ll know how to explain it better than anyone else.
And if that doesn’t work, Otis could still be valuable to Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) while Boden has to deal with Grissom’s machinations. Otis could make sure that Grissom doesn’t pull a fast one on the boss, and perhaps help him fight fire with fire.
