Where we left off

Chicago Fire fans are probably better off asking themselves what didn’t happen to Kelly Severide last season. Things started off on a very familiar note, as a not really grieving Kelly welcomed the aggressive advances of Hope Jacquinot (recurring guest star Eloise Mumford).

Hope then got kind of obsessed with Severide, as she began messing with Stella and managed to get Stella sent out of Firehouse 51. Luckily, Hope was soon fired and left town, but Severide had to stay on the romantic roller coaster for pretty much the rest of Chicago Fire season 6.

He and Stella did the “will they or won’t they” for most of the season, finally getting back together during the first two-hour movie event after Stella was hit by a stray bullet. But Kelly also faced a reminder of his dead girlfriend Anna Turner when he went to see a hospital wing named after her, and a return visit from his very not dead ex-girlfriend Renee Royce (Sarah Shahi).

The latter seemed interested in rekindling their romance, but Severide wasn’t having any of it. Nor was he interested when his mom (Kim Delaney) came to Chicago and started things up again with his dad (Treat Williams). Severide’s due skepticism brought an end to that fling, with mom blaming him.

Plus, Grissom showed up and wanted Kelly to get promoted, then got ticked when he didn’t want to, and then got more angry when Severide supported Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) to become fire commissioner. With Grissom winning the job in the season finale, we’re going to guess that Kelly is off his Christmas card list.
