Chicago Fire season 7 character preview: Kelly Severide
What will happen
Kelly Severide is probably in trouble. Chicago Fire loves to write Severide as a flawed hero, so why should Chicago Fire season 7 be any different?
There’s likely going to be drama in his relationship with Stella. That is the most plausible given the show does devote a fair amount of time to its romantic stories, and with Dawsey no longer an on-screen thing due to the exit of Monica Raymund, Stellaride is the biggest ship the show has. So if Derek Haas and company want romantic drama, and they usually do, it’s Severide and Stella who are the prime targets.
With Grissom returning as a character in the new season, there logically have to be scenes with him and Kelly. Taylor Kinney and Gary Cole had exceptional chemistry last season, and it doesn’t make sense for their characters not to interact this season, given all the backstory that was set up between them.
The question is how? We don’t know how long the Grissom story is going to run, and there’s a new antagonist for the show to play with, too. So does Severide finally tell Grissom off? Or does he try to make peace with him again? Or does Grissom just send his new guy to irritate Severide in his place?
There’s a lot of ways that could go, but look for Severide to have a huge headache this season, likely in more ways than one.
