Chicago Med season 4 character preview: Will Halstead
What will happen
Regardless of what happens with the proposal, expect Chicago Med to get every ounce of drama out of Manstead, and for that to continue to be the most prominent part of Will’s storyline. It has to be in at least the first episode or two, because asking the woman you love to marry you is a big moment, and will affect him no matter what the answer is.
But past that, the show demonstrated in the third season that it likes a lot of drama in this ship, and that they can be happy but only up to a certain point. The season started with nothing but cute Manstead moments, and then it was almost nothing but arguments—and decisions that made less and less sense. So even if Natalie says yes, there’s going to be some fighting on the way to the altar. Could she even break off the engagement before reconsidering?
Back inside the hospital, it doesn’t sound like there is much going on in Will’s professional life. His legal problems are a thing of the past, and though he did let a patient die last season, there were not huge consequences for that either. He’ll probably make another mistake or some controversial choice, because that seems to be his modus operandi, but get away with a slap on the wrist for it.
He’ll likely continue to work most of his cases with Natalie, because that then allows the show to combine work with their home life, and also create more tension between them. And Will, being who he is, will have a lot to deal with—but get through it somehow, because Will Halstead always does.
