Chicago Fire season 7 character preview: Joe Cruz
What will happen
As mentioned previously, there’s a strong suspicion that Chicago Fire season 7 is going to give Cruz a new girlfriend. Chicago Fire cast an actress as the new firehouse assistant over the hiatus, and part of the character’s description was that she’s going to take an interest in one of the firefighters.
Well, as of this moment, Cruz is the only single firefighter at Firehouse 51—so unless this new character is going to turn into another Hope and be flirting with an unavailable man, he’s got to be the one by process of elimination. And that will be good for him, considering how disastrous his personal life was last season.
As far as his professional life goes, the Slamigan felt like a one-season plot, and hopefully the show won’t shoot Otis again (or shoot Cruz, for that matter). So it seems unlikely that Cruz will get another subplot to play with. There’s just nothing that immediately stands out as a direction to take him in.
But that’s the problem. Since he’s a supporting character, Cruz doesn’t have as much definition as the more prominent characters. He’s not always in the thick of things, and so it’s harder to figure out where he’s going. Chicago Fire doesn’t show any signs of changing that, but at least Cruz will always be here whenever he’s needed.
