Where we left off

The early end to Chicago Justice meant that Antonio Dawson had to find a way back to his old stomping grounds, because no one was going to lose Jon Seda out of One Chicago. So after he officially returned in the fourth season, the fifth season was Antonio’s first complete season back in his new-old unit.

Throughout the season, Antonio’s own moral code clashed with the more controversial methods of his boss Voight. The episode “Promise” saw Antonio explode at Voight when he realized that the other man had enabled the murder of a suspect who would have gotten away otherwise, and Voight not care what Antonio thought.

Things came to a head in “Homecoming” when Antonio was the only witness to Voight shooting the man who’d ordered the murder of Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas), and Chicago PD fans were left guessing what Antonio told the review board. Did he sell his boss out?

But it’s not as if Antonio Dawson was perfect either. The episode “Chasing Monsters” was one of the weakest of the season, showing him having a one-night stand with a foreign detective that he barely knew.

Plus, over on Chicago Fire, Antonio was subjected to yet more back and forth in his relationship with ex-girlfriend Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). All it amounted to, though, was a lot of sex, Brett dumping Antonio to avoid “feelings” for him, and a pregnancy scare Antonio never knew about. It wasn’t a great season for his love life.
