Where we left off

Halstead was left heartbroken when his ex-girlfriend and ex-partner Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) moved to New York. He also landed on the hot seat right away as the Chicago PD season premiere “Reform” saw him get into a shootout where one of his bullets accidentally struck a young girl. When the girl died from her injuries, Halstead found himself tried in the court of public opinion and could have lost his badge.

Jay’s past was brought up again in the episode “Care Under Fire” when he went undercover and became close to another former Marine who was now in the drug world. Halstead grew close to the man and tried to help him, but again, it ended with a death—as he was shot and killed with Jay on the scene.

This and more unresolved baggage from his own past prompted Jay to start sleeping with the dead man’s sister Camila (recurring guest star Anabelle Acosta), who had no idea that he was a cop. That was kind of fair, though, because he had no idea that she was a drug dealer herself until the episode “Rabbit Hole.”

Then everything came out, and while Camila thought that she and “Ryan” were going to run away together and start a new life outside of Chicago, Halstead ultimately did the right thing and helped put her behind bars. He went into therapy, and by the end of the season, seemed to have gotten himself back together. We hope.
