Chicago PD season 6 character preview: Jay Halstead
What will happen
After getting so much of the spotlight last season, Chicago PD season 6 probably won’t feature as much of Jay Halstead. That’s just a given; after a character gets a sizeable arc in one season, they normally don’t have a similarly big story right away, so that the series can focus on other people.
That’s not to say that Halstead won’t be a presence. He certainly will be. But hopefully he won’t go getting himself into trouble. Instead, we expect that the series will continue to develop his still growing partnership with Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). The duo were still getting used to each other last season, so they should continue to gel this season.
Upton has already demonstrated that she’s not taking nonsense from Jay, so expect him to keep getting used to her as a partner and how she’s different from Lindsay. In turn, he’ll likely continue to push her and show her how things are done in Intelligence. Their relationship is very interesting to watch, so there’s no reason Chicago PD shouldn’t continue to write about it.
Also, look for Jay to once again be the calm one who tries to hold the team together. With Voight in trouble, Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) gone, and everyone else upset, Intelligence needs somebody who can help restore order. That’s what Halstead was great at for four seasons, and that’s what he will most likely be used for again. If anybody can get the team back on the same page, it’s Jay.
