What should happen

There’s only one thing we really want for Wallace Boden in Chicago Fire season 7: that he gets to overthrow Carl Grissom, and possibly punch him in the face.

Boden’s current storyline is doubly infuriating. Grissom is a character that the audience loves to hate, thanks to a perfectly smarmy performance by Gary Cole, and then we’re also angry because we know how much Boden deserves the job. We want to see Grissom taken down, and Boden is the one who needs to do it.

Obviously, Boden can’t replace him as fire commissioner after that happens, because then he’d leave the firehouse and Eamonn Walker isn’t expected to leave Chicago Fire at least until the end of the season (he just signed a new contract for the new cycle). But he still deserves to see his nemesis get his comeuppance.

Once that’s resolved, perhaps Boden finds a renewed enjoyment in his current position, because he’s seen what life is like at the top ranks and doesn’t like it as much as he thought he would. He can get out and do some more firefighting, because he can still do the job as well as anyone else in the house. His career is far from over.
