Before Chicago Fire season 7 begins on Sept. 26, we’re previewing the new season specifically for each main character. Where did they leave off last season, what ought to happen with them in the new season, and what is most likely going to happen next?

Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) has always been one of the leaders of Firehouse 51, and that has never been more apparent than it is now. After five seasons of hard work, Casey earned a bump up in rank, which broke the show’s precedent of finding ways to keep our characters from getting the recognition they deserve. He’s now the second highest-ranking main character on the show.

He also enjoyed his first full season as a married man, after his impulsive marriage to longtime love Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) in the show’s hundredth episode, but the relationship took a few twists and turns–including the biggest one of all over the hiatus. Where does all of this leave Casey as he heads into the new season?
