What will happen

If you’re a Matthew Casey fan, don’t worry because Chicago Fire season 7 seems poised to do just what needs to be done with his character. Given how much mileage the show got out of Dawsey, it will almost certainly dig into the angst and heartbreak that goes with Dawsey being broken apart.

Casey will spend some time trying to come to terms with Dawson’s decision to go to Puerto Rico, and likely go through all the various emotional stages (anger, frustration, eventual understanding, maybe a little bargaining) on his way to realizing that they’re growing apart. He’s always worn his heart on his sleeve, and she still has his heart in her hands.

The recently released sneak peek of the season shows one scene between Casey and Severide, so that’s on the table as well, at least briefly. Hopefully that won’t be the last of it.

Plus, Casey is still a Captain and there are still fires to fight, so work will more than likely pull him out of his personal problems at some point. Firefighting doesn’t stop no matter what else is going on in our characters’ lives, and Casey will not be an exception to that rule. Let’s just hope he does not spend the whole season upset, because that wouldn’t be fair to him either.
