Chicago Med season 4 character preview: Sarah Reese
Where we left off
There were two major storylines for Sarah Reese last season, and both of them were about her personal problems. In the first part of the season, Reese was so disturbed by Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) being shot that she took it worse than he did.
She didn’t understand why he wasn’t more upset at the man that shot him—to the point where she testified for the prosecution, when Charles was on the stand for the defense. And she got very worried about security in and around the hospital, going so far as to arm herself with some pepper spray.
But that came to a head when Reese sprayed an angry patient, earning herself a suspension. We saw Dr. Charles have to teach her how to confront fear, as he took her along with him as he went to the local prison.
Just as she seemed to be having a breakthrough, Chicago Med gave Reese an even bigger issue in the second half of the season. Audiences met her estranged father Robert Haywood (Michel Gill), who suddenly wanted to reconnect with his daughter.
But that was only because he wanted something from her. Robert was having heart problems, and expected that he would move in with Reese and she would take care of him. Dr. Charles knew that something was wrong, and quickly diagnosed Robert with a personality disorder, too.
Reese was oblivious to this, and to the knowledge that her father was a murderer, because it was all under doctor-patient confidentiality (and some sneaky investigating by Charles). She was last seen arriving to find Charles kneeling next to her father’s fallen body—so is he alive or dead and how will that affect her?
