What should happen

What needs to happen for Trudy Platt in Chicago PD season 6 is plain and simple: more of Trudy Platt. Like Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), Platt has been underused and that ought to come to an end as quickly as possible.

The sixth season provides an opportunity for additional screen time for Platt. While Chicago PD seems to be focusing on the effect Alvin Olinsky’s (Elias Koteas) death has on Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), let’s not forget that Olinsky was a close friend to Platt, too. And Voight, of course, is her BFF.

So Platt will not only be grieving herself, but she will be there as Voight goes through whatever he needs to go through. Because the only person who’s going to be able to reel Hank Voight back in is Trudy Platt. Nobody else can get stern with him the way she does, and those two have a special relationship of their own.

Once the season goes past that point, the writers can keep Platt involved if they’re going to dig more into departmental politics (which it seems they will given this new character). Platt has her ear to the ground and she knows how the political machine works. She could find things out, or be a sounding board, or just be Voight’s wrench in the machine.
