Before Chicago Fire season 7 begins on Sept. 26, we’re previewing the new season specifically for each main character. Where did they leave off last season, what ought to happen with them in the new season, and what is most likely going to happen next?

Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) returns to work at Firehouse 51, continuing to be one of the most experienced firefighters in the house. Herrmann feels like he’s seen it all—not only in the line of duty, but within the walls of the firehouse, and in life where he’s happily married with kids that make him crazy. Whatever happens, it seems like he’s been there already.

But given where the last season left him, where could Herrmann go from here? He might have tons of experience, and the sharpest wit in the room, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t human. He has a lot to think about, so we’re looking at where he’s supposed to go now. What’s left in store for him, and is it possible that this season he could just burn out?
