Chicago Med season 4 character preview: Ava Bekker
Where we left off
Since last season was Ava’s first season as a main character, it’s no surprise that Chicago Med gave her a ton of screen time. She was one of the most prominent characters during the third season, while the show tried to develop her as a character and also get the audience to know her better.
The problem is, the development the writers gave Ava was almost entirely in one area: her and Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell). 90 percent of the time, when audiences saw Ava, she was either snarking at Connor to remind us of their professional rivalry, or there was some hint about their personal flirtation—which the writers had started back in season 2, when he still had a girlfriend!
At midseason, it finally boiled over. The end of “Folie A Deux” saw them share an impulsive kiss, and the next episode started with Ava walking out of Connor’s bedroom. But the two didn’t get together after that, instead continuing to circle one another while Connor’s father Cornelius (D.W. Moffett) flirted with her, in one of the most uncomfortable parts of the whole season for Ava and the audience.
Ava escaped trouble most of the season. She nearly got into trouble for leaving an instrument inside a patient in “An Inconvenient Truth” but Connor tried to take the fall for her instead, and in another episode audiences met her mentor (Malcolm McDowell). Yet when he turned on her and began to criticize her work, Connor stepped in to shut him up as well. How will those experiences influence her when Chicago Med returns?
