Chicago Med season 4 character preview: Ava Bekker

What will happen

Based on the way Chicago Med wrote for Ava last season, it’s clear that the series’ first priority is her romantic relationship with Connor. Despite the fact that they only spent one night together, and haven’t had any subsequent shippy moments or even a serious talk about what they want in the future, expect the show to continue to push the narrative that they are in love.

Chicago Med season 4 likely won’t hook Ava and Connor back up right away, because it has to get some mileage out of the suspense regarding that Mayo Clinic job. Regardless of what he does, Ava will still be affected, and might even still be upset because she did accuse him of manipulating the situation for his benefit. There’s no basis for a renewed love affair yet, but expect that it will be on the cards by midseason.

Something else that’s probable is continued significant screen time for Ava. Chicago Med‘s two showrunners have confirmed that Dr. Isidore Latham is no longer a major recurring character, as Ato Essandoh has his own show now. So Connor essentially doesn’t have a boss, which means the primary character he can and will interact with is Ava. Aside from whatever happens with them romantically, the show needs her to keep him from talking to himself, so she’ll continue to get a decent showing each week.

Of course, if the showrunners follow through with their plan to bring back a key character from Connor’s past, Ava will have another psuedo-love triangle on her hands—and if that happens, expect that will be the focus instead of the medicine.
