Chicago Med season 4 character preview: Natalie Manning

What will happen

Get ready for Natalie to have a ring on her finger. Manstead is a huge part of Chicago Med (it’s the most prominent ship the show has), and the writers have shown that they love writing these two in love. She will accept his marriage proposal, because the show won’t blow up its biggest couple the season after putting them together, and because it wants to write this ship.

That doesn’t mean it’s going to be happily ever after. The other thing that the last season showed us is that the writers pushed Natalie and Will’s natural conflict to a whole other level when they started dating, as if they were looking for extra drama (like adding gender to what should have just been a fight over Will being overprotective). They will fight again, over the wedding or over more patients. Probably both.

When they’re on the same page, the show focuses on them being cute more than digging into the relationship and its effects on the characters. This is the same show that hardly remembers that Natalie has a son. So we don’t expect Chicago Med season 4 to talk a lot about how Natalie agreeing to a second marriage is a big step for her, or Will becoming a stepdad; instead, look for a lot of fluff, like cake tasting or them moving in together.

It all amounts to another up and down season for Natalie. There will be some adorable stuff that will melt our hearts, but there will also be some fights and some times when she crosses another line in the hospital. Don’t be surprised if Chicago Med does something to make fans wonder if Will and Natalie will make it to the altar.
