Where we left off

Adam Ruzek has had the bumpiest road of any Chicago PD character, because he’s had some odd storylines not just last season, but the season before as well. Ruzek disappeared for multiple episodes in the middle of Chicago PD season 4, claiming that he was so uncomfortable that his ex-fiancee Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) was promoted to Intelligence that he just had to take an undercover assignment.

In fairness, that may have been because Patrick John Flueger was unavailable for those episodes, but the end result was still an absent Ruzek, who was then demoted back to patrol—for half of one episode, so it didn’t really matter.

When he returned last season, Ruzek was the winner of Chicago PD‘s “have someone turn who’ll turn on Hank Voight” sweepstakes. When Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson) threatened to have his sister prosecuted, Ruzek agreed to be Woods’ inside man and provide information that would help him bury Voight.

That didn’t last long, though, as Ruzek eventually couldn’t take this anymore and told Woods he was done—not long before Voight found out and put him in the proverbial doghouse. Ruzek had to earn his redemption by trying to act as a double agent, snapped at a suspect, and also had a one-night stand with Burgess.
