Chicago Fire star Christian Stolte celebrates his birthday on Tuesday, so we’re celebrating him and his Chicago Fire character Mouch.

Today is the birthday of Chicago Fire‘s own Christian Stolte, the man behind the irrepressible and always memorable Randall “Mouch” McHolland!

He’s become a fixture in One Chicago, and we don’t mean his designated spot on Firehouse 51’s couch. Christian has contributed so much to the franchise, even if his character isn’t the center of attention.

Mouch is part of the group of supporting characters who play off one another for much-needed comic relief. They’re always there to make a joke at each other’s expense, or take a joke with good humor.

And on his own, there’s even more humor for Mouch due to his interactions with his no-nonsense wife Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) or characters like Connie (the late DuShon Monique Brown). Do you remember this deleted scene?

That scene exemplifies the greatness of Mouch on Chicago Fire. His ideas may sound a little weird or not work out, but at least he’s trying. He may not be as young as he used to be or as athletic as he once was, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t hustle at every fire call.

He’s just an ordinary, hard-working guy who wants to do the best he can—and sometimes it gets him into trouble or winds up putting him in weird situations, but Mouch always come through with a smile. He proves you can be a hero, no matter who you are, just because you work your tail off.

Chicago Fire season 6 has also showcased his value in more serious moments. During the Chicago Crossover, audiences got to see Mouch acting as a mentor to a scared young firefighter so he was able to get through the day.

Christian Stolte plays all of those moments so well, whether serious or funny, strange or the most heroic. He’s a veteran actor who can do a lot with a little, and shines when he gets the spotlight. It wouldn’t be the same without him. Happy birthday, Christian Stolte!
