How did this week’s Law and Order SVU season 20 episode do in the TV ratings? Here’s the Nov. 8 edition of the SVU Ratings Report.

With the 20th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season continuing, it’s time for another look at the Dick Wolf series’ TV ratings with the SVU Ratings Report.

Thursday’s installment “Hell’s Kitchen” unfortunately snapped the show’s streak of gaining more viewers. The episode was down to 4.43 million people who watched it live.

That’s a loss of 110,000 viewers from last week. While that’s not a catastrophic loss, it isn’t good news either, especially since it’s a six-figure decline.

What held steady was the show’s 0.9 share among audience members aged 18-49, which was on par with “Caretaker.” That tied the series in that category with NBC‘s comedy Superstore, which is the lead-in for the network’s Thursday primetime line-up.

Something else that didn’t change is SVU‘s ranking amongst all the shows that aired on Thursday night. Out of 16 programs on broadcast networks, the show once again finished in 10th place.

It was more half-million viewers behind CBS‘s SWAT (5.1 million live viewers) but more than one million ahead of ABC‘s How to Get Away with Murder (3.06 million).

So what can audiences take away from this week’s TV ratings? It looks like Olivia Benson and her detectives have settled into a comfortable 4-5 million viewer range and they’re staying there. It would be nice to see them pull in more eyeballs, especially with Dick Wolf’s One Chicago franchise getting 7-8 million viewers a week.

But since none of the other shows on Thursday nights are really breakout hits either, it doesn’t seem to really affect SVU‘s future. One thing to keep an eye on is what happens in January, when NBC is changing the rest of the Thursday night lineup.

Will Benson and company do better with the more popular The Good Place and Will & Grace as their lead-ins? We’ll find out in the new year, but until then let’s see if SVU season 20 will keep holding steady through the rest of 2018.
