CHICAGO FIRE — “All the Proof” Episode 706 — Pictured: David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann — (Photo by: Elizabeth Morris/NBC) /

One Chicago fans have lots to look back on this Thanksgiving. Here’s what we’re most thankful for from Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med.

Happy Thanksgiving, One Chicago viewers! In honor of tomorrow’s Thanksgiving holiday, it’s time to look back on what we’re thankful for when it comes to Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. What one moment from the current season has us giving the most thanks?

When it comes to Chicago Fire season 7, the thing that we’re most thankful for is also one of the season’s biggest surprises: the promotion of Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) to the new Lieutenant at Firehouse 51!

Not only did Herrmann not see it coming, neither did the audience. It was a genuine surprise, since Chicago Fire fans will remember when Herrmann actively put himself forward for promotion a few seasons ago, only to blow his chances. He hadn’t seemed to be interested in trying again, nor did it seem like the show would want to revisit a storyline that it had already done.

But as we’ve said numerous times on the site, it’s a catch-22 that the characters of Firehouse 51 are so good at their jobs, but never truly get recognized for it. To buck that trend for the second time in two seasons (following Matthew Casey’s promotion to Captain), plus also undermine the plans of Jerry Gorsch (Steven Boyer), was absolutely perfect.

Not to mention, it’s been a delight to see Herrmann try to settle into management. In some ways he’s an outstanding leader and in other ways he’s still getting used to it, like trying not to be part of the squad’s hunt for Chief Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) calendar and clearly failing. This has been a fantastic storyline for David Eigenberg, and we’re thankful for it and everything it represents.
