Dick Wolf reviving New York Undercover at ABC
Dick Wolf is developing a New York Undercover reboot for ABC, which would give him two shows not airing on NBC in two seasons.
The Dick Wolf brand is continuing to branch out beyond NBC, as new reports say the producer is now working on a revival of New York Undercover.
Per Deadline, Wolf wants to bring back his 1990’s series about undercover cops working in New York, and the revived show would air on ABC.
The original New York Undercover aired its series finale 20 years ago. It aired from 1994 to 1998 with Malik Yoba (Alphas) and Michael DeLorenzo (Resurrection Blvd.) in the two leading roles. The FOX drama was Yoba’s first TV show as a series regular.
The new version would be produced by Dick Wolf and his longtime partners Peter Jankowski and Arthur Forney, and written by Ben Watkins (Burn Notice, Hand of God).

What’s more interesting about this news for fans who have followed Dick Wolf is that after years of being so closely associated with NBC, he’s now starting to go into business elsewhere. He took FBI to CBS and made it a hit, after NBC passed on the idea, and now this reboot would be at ABC.
That’s a big development for a producer who has done a decade-plus of business with the same network, and has become so associated with its brand. Could he continue to diversify and what would that mean?
It’s unlikely that he’ll leave; he’s still in business with the Peacock on two different franchises, and his One Chicago franchise is enabling the network to win most Wednesday nights in live viewers, so they have no incentive not to keep working with him, either. But the fact that he’s now taking his talents to networks beyond that is worth keeping an eye on.

It’s also notable because that’s the second new series that Wolf has put into development this year. He previously announced that he’s working with NBC on another Law & Order series called Hate Crimes. How many shows can he get on the air at one time, and how many will stay there?
For now, the New York Undercover reboot is just in development, and may turn out to be just an idea. But if it comes to pass, it’ll be adding another page to his already notable portfolio.
