While Chicago PD fans wait for the show to return, we’re looking back at the first half of the new season to answer an important question: What are the biggest moments that have shaped season 6 so far?

The nine episodes that have aired so far have had their fair share of important plot twists and big reveals. There have been deaths, hookups, breakups and plenty of emotional moments. But what makes the biggest moments? Well, that’s a whole other story.

3) Atwater gets an episode

What happened: Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) got an overdue spotlight episode, in which he went undercover and found himself with a new love interest (portrayed by How to Get Away with Murder actress Milauna Jemai Jackson). In true Chicago PD fashion, things took a nasty turn and Atwater got his heart broken before having to make a very tough ethical decision. But at least he had more screen time!

The episode: “Black and Blue” (episode 8)

Why it’s important: Pretty much every One Chicago fan has recognized that Kevin Atwater never gets the screen time he deserves. It’s been a running complaint for seasons now that Atwater is left on the sidelines for large parts of Chicago PD, except for getting an episode or two a year (and those always involve something terrible happening to him).

“Black and Blue” still had something terrible befalling Atwater, but at least it finally gave him a substantial amount of screen time, more than two months into the season. LaRoyce Hawkins was on point once again, and the addition of Milauna Jemai Jackson was a welcome one. This episode also pushed Atwater forward by challenging his commitment to the community (one of his core values).

And does anyone think that his decision to throw a murder weapon off a bridge is going to come back to haunt him before the end of the season?
