Chicago Med season 4 midseason report: Connor Rhodes

What’s next

The wild card in the whole hybrid OR storyline was Connor’s father Cornelius Rhodes (recurring guest star D.W. Moffett), who earned himself a seat on the hospital board by writing that huge check. Cornelius delights in screwing over his son, as if he’s getting back at Connor for carving his own path, and now he’s got power in Connor’s own workplace.

The promo that NBC released for the Chicago Med midseason premiere reveals that Connor slugs his father at some sort of gathering. What is Cornelius going to do that prompts such an intense reaction from his son? And what consequences will Connor face—because he can’t hit someone at a public function and come away unscathed. We wouldn’t put it past his father to have Connor thrown back in jail, this time for an assault charge.

But that’s what’s also great about Connor Rhodes as a character. Because of his personality and his family, he’s the one doctor who can move in that upper echelon of hospital politics. This is the same guy who was prepared to sue the hospital in season 2!

So why not use that and have him jump-start the “hospital board vs. hospital care” storyline? That’s been sluggish so far, but having a doctor actively in the mix—especially when it’s Connor with his ability to tell it like it is—would shake it up and make it stand out from other, similar stories on other medical dramas. Colin Donnell can drive this show, and Chicago Med season 4 would be perfect for that.
