What’s next

The Chicago Fire midseason finale ended with Stellaride seemingly on the rocks. Stella was out on the town by herself and wound up hanging out with Tyler, leaving Severide to order a pizza on his own. So obviously, the first episode back will have to answer the question of what their status is.

The episode will have to pick up not long after the finale left off, because of its other cliffhanger (you know this one). That means it could even be the same night, so logically, Stella is probably still going to be angry with Severide. But that’s also good news in a way—because there’s not a time jump, the show also can’t say they’ve broken up or haven’t spoken in two weeks or anything else crazy.

Expect the two of them to make up, if not in that episode then shortly thereafter, because the series has invested too much into the Stellaride ship to just break it after about a season of them officially being a couple again.

The question is, what will Chicago Fire season 7 do with Tyler? Is he coming back in this next new episode? And is the show going to keep playing this “Tyler vs. Severide” story or not? Since it’s not clear what direction the show wants to take that character, it’s similarly difficult to guess if he’ll be part of Stella’s plotline going forward.

The best news is that since she was already hospitalized early in this season, it’s a safe bet that she can’t wind up back in the ED in the remaining 13 episodes. She doesn’t have Casey levels of bad luck yet.
