What’s happened so far

Kevin Atwater has traditionally been the most underused character on Chicago PD, and the sixth season has taken some steps to resolve that—though there’s still some work to do.

Atwater got a feature episode with “Black and Blue” which saw him become romantically involved with a woman who had turned her life around after previously dating a drug dealer (as explained in the deleted scene that you can watch below). But even though she had honestly changed, his love interest’s past caught up with her; she was hauled off in the back of a police car, and Atwater was heartbroken.

Though only that one episode gave him substantial screen time, he has had some cool moments in the other eight installments that have aired so far. Atwater went undercover with his partner Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) in his feature episode, went undercover again in “Trigger,” and it was Atwater who broke up the fight between Ruzek and Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) during the season premiere.

He still isn’t as prominent as he could be, but there have been small improvements.
