What’s next

There are some very interesting ways Chicago PD can play with Hank Voight when the series is back in January. If the writers want to say that Voight still has some issues to work out, and that he really isn’t the same guy since Olinsky’s death, that could rear its ugly head as soon as the show comes back.

Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) is in big trouble, and what if Voight blames himself for that? He’d be wrong, but he could say Olinsky died and now Antonio has gone off the deep end, and feel like he bears responsibility as the leader of the team. Antonio’s problem could bring back Voight’s guilt complex and the show can dig into that the way it didn’t before.

Or, it can go hard at the political machine it’s set up. Obviously the Brennan storyline is far from over, and a certain Alderman will be back later this season. That will be fireworks for Voight if he gets caught between the two. Not only that, but either one of them would seize on any kind of weakness in his team if it furthered their own ends. So he could wind up fighting a whole other kind of battle before the end of season 6.

It just depends on what story the writers want to tell with Hank Voight this season. So far, there isn’t a clearly defined theme for him the way there is for some of the other characters. But he’s always going to be the heart of the show and they should use that to their advantage. It feels like we haven’t seen Voight on full blast yet.
