Chicago PD season 6 midseason report: Jay Halstead
What’s next
Given the major spoilers dropped in the new Chicago Med promo, it looks like Jay’s time on that show is coming to an end relatively soon, which would refocus his screen time entirely on his day job. And how will he fit in to the changing Intelligence Unit?
One thing that’s worth noting is that even though most of his partner’s screen time has been about her new romantic relationship, there have still been two really good moments between Jay and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
He was there for her like a partner should be in “True or False,” and at the end of “Trigger” she supported him and specifically said how their partnership works. You can rewatch that excellent scene by playing the video below.
She’s absolutely right—the Halstead and Upton partnership really works, and it’s one of the best parts of Chicago PD. There needs to be more of that! If nothing else, when her relationship comes out, he can give her some advice (considering that he dated his previous partner for years and was going to propose to her before she left). The worst thing the show could do would be to ignore that friendship because now Upton’s in a relationship.
But with part of the team having to cover up a death, and all kinds of political problems ahead, it’s going to get rocky for the whole Intelligence team. Somebody will have to step up, and now that Halstead is back in one piece, it could easily be him. He and Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) can steer the ship for a while. And Jay should at least be at his brother’s wedding, if and when that happens!
