What’s happened so far

Dr. Will Halstead definitely wins the “worst half of the season” award among all the characters in the One Chicago universe. His father died, he found out the COO of his own hospital was trying to keep said dad on life support to make her numbers look better, he accidentally got involved with a gangster, he was almost shot, his wedding was ruined and now he’s off somewhere in protective custody (hopefully not Terror Lake).

It was Will’s turn to get involved in an ongoing investigation, kind of like what Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) was wrapped up in last season—except for that while Charles was snooping on his own, Will was pressed into working on a joint police and FBI task force. His brother was also part of the action but mostly to just scold Will for doing something he wasn’t supposed to.

The other half of his storyline involved Will trying to plan his wedding to Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), and it really didn’t go right from the start. First the two were arguing over the details, like if they needed to even have a wedding ceremony. Then it was no shock when Will’s new second job interfered with the plans, from mysterious phone calls to him straight-up lying to his fiancee.

The last time audiences saw Will Halstead, he was climbing into a car and being driven off into the aforementioned protective custody. He’ll have a lot of explaining to do in the rest of the season!
