What’s happened so far

For Ethan Choi, the theme of Chicago Med season 4 has been his personal life—and how it’s kind of a mess, which is unexpected since he normally has everything under control.

Choi’s sister Emily (recurring guest star Arden Cho) returned, having kicked the drug habit that put her into the hospital at the end of last season. But April revealed another issue: she was pregnant by a man she’d met in her support group.

The writers then threw in another twist by revealing that her baby’s father Bernie was not telling the whole truth. He was already married with a daughter! And even though Bernie’s wife read her the riot act, April not only decided to stand by her man—she moved to Las Vegas with him, which Choi didn’t agree with but didn’t stop her from doing.

April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) had followed through on her threat from last season’s finale to break up with Choi, so he rekindled things with his first season love interest Vicki Glass (returning guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson).

Oh, yeah, and the show almost killed Choi off. He was exposed to a potentially lethal chemical in “The Poison Inside Us,” after an angry man blamed Choi for his wife’s death. He was able to pull through, thanks to some heroics from April, who is clearly not over him. But Choi’s got a new (old) love now, so is it too late?
