Chicago PD season 6 midseason report: Adam Ruzek

What’s next

Chicago PD has pushed the Ruzek and Upton romance to the forefront of its narrative, so expect more of that when the series returns in January. Will they really move in together? And while he’s clearly liking her, is Upton as serious about Ruzek? There’s still some romantic drama to play with and the show probably will, because this is the only active couple that it has right now.

But it’ll be more interesting to see where Adam Ruzek goes professionally. He and Voight were the only two witnesses to Antonio pushing a drug dealer out the window—so now Ruzek has the fate of Antonio in his hands. And he’s in the exact same position he lectured Antonio about at the start of the season. How will Ruzek behave with the tables turned? (And who’ll be first to point out the irony?)

It’d also be worthwhile if Ruzek checks back in with his father. He learned that his father was in serious financial trouble a few episodes ago, and certainly he wouldn’t want Bob getting mixed up with more drug dealers. So shouldn’t he keep tabs and make sure Bob is doing okay?

If the show really wants to have fun with it, he could bring Upton and we could have a “meet the parents” type moment on Chicago PD. That would be going really fast, but at least it would make the idea work with what the writers are emphasizing right now.

All in all, this could turn out to be one of Ruzek’s biggest years, both in terms of screen time and how much he’s developing as a character. Patrick John Flueger has done well with everything from the family drama to the romantic scenes, and it’ll be fun to see what else he’s handed next.
